Komal Samaroo is the Executive Chairman of Demerara Distillers Limited, a publicly held company in Guyana that is El Dorado Rum's home. He has been instrumental to the company’s development over the last five decades, having previously held several key positions, including that of Managing Director and Vice President, International Marketing.

Mr. Samaroo has been serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors of West Indies Rum & Spirits Producers’ Association (WIRSPA) since April, 2017.

He is also Chairman of National Rums of Jamaica (NRJ), a joint venture amongst Demerara Distillers Ltd, West Indies Rum Distillery of Barbados, and Sugar Company Holdings of Jamaica.

In addition, Mr. Samaroo is Chairman of Diamond Fire and General Insurance Inc. in Guyana, and the Institute of Private Enterprise Development Limited (IPED), a non-profit private sector micro and small business financing institution.

He was recently appointed Chairman of Demerara Bank Limited after the passing of the iconic Dr.Yesu Persaud.

He is the recipient of two national Awards - the Cacique's Crown of Honour (C.C.H.) was awarded in 2018 for his contribution to business development, and the Golden Arrow of Achievement was awarded in 1993 for service of an exceptionally high standard in the field of Financial Management and Business.

Mr. Samaroo is a Chartered Accountant by profession, having been a Fellow of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants of the UK since 1983. He is also an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (now Chartered Governance Institute) of the UK since 1975.
