Speaker Bio
John Adeyemi Adeleke, qualified as Barrister-at-Law in the U.K. in 1986, and later as a Solicitor & Advocate in Nigeria. The start of a Masters in International Trade Law at the Law Center of Georgetown University, Washington D.C., was cut short upon the death of his father, Chief Adebayo Adeleke, necessitating a return to Nigeria “to take up the reigns.” He was an elected Board Director of the WTCA for over 15 years, was a WTCA Regional Co-ordinator and has been associated with WTC Lagos for over 30 years. He has spoken out on trade (especially exports) and investment (FTZs, retail and agriculture) issues in Nigeria. For over two decades, he has been a consultant to Investment Risk agencies in the UK, the US and South Africa, and an adviser to new investors in Nigeria, Ghana and the UK. His areas of interests include agriculture, retail, property, conservation, and both African (and Diaspora) contemporary art and historical art. He has also been involved with Community Development initiatives to add balance to commercial projects, and is also a Trustee of the Leventis Foundation in Nigeria (connected to the Leventis and Hellenic Groups) involved in agricultural and educational empowerment programs in Nigeria. He takes every opportunity to not only underscore his commitment to the ideals of the WTCA, but also to point to his background, on the one hand Nigerian, but on his maternal side, Venezuelan-Grenadian-Trinidadian, to trumpet his emotional bond with the concepts of globalization.
