Traveling to Europe in 2025: What You Need to Know About ETIAS

Starting in 2025, travelers from visa-exempt countries planning to visit European Union countries, along with Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland, will be required to obtain an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) authorization before their trip. This new requirement is designed to enhance security within the Schengen Area by pre-screening travelers before they enter. The ETIAS authorization is mandatory for short stays of up to 90 days for business, tourism, medical, or transit purposes.

Citizens of the Schengen countries, composed of 26 countries, can move and stay freely in this area.

Citizens of other European countries (specifically, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Ireland, Romania and the United Kingdom) may also move and stay freely.

For other citizens, a Visa may be required. Determine your status here. If a visa is required, email events@wtca.org to request the GBF Invitation Letter Template, which you'll need to include with your visa application..

Who Needs to Apply for ETIAS?

Citizens from over 60 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, and Japan, will need to apply for an ETIAS before traveling to Europe. This authorization is a quick, electronic application process that will provide travelers with the necessary approval to enter the Schengen Area. Once granted, ETIAS will be valid for multiple entries over three years or until the traveler’s passport expires, whichever comes first.

For more detailed information on ETIAS and how to apply, visit the official ETIAS website.
