Uma Reddy, an Electrical Engineer from UVCE, Bangalore, is the Managing Director of M/S Hitech Magnetics & Electronics (HME) Pvt. Ltd. A first-generation technocrat entrepreneur, she started her career while at college and manufactures custom-built transformers, coils, inductors, electronic subassemblies, cable harnesses, surveillance net solutions, etc.
Her company won the Performance Award as the best supplier from GE Medical Systems, South Asia, in 2001; the Kirloskar Best Supplier Award in 2005; and the ABB Safety Award in 2007 & 2011.
She has also won a National Award for Women Entrepreneurs in 2001 and received the Rajyotsava Award in 2005 for her contribution to society. Her contribution back to society has been through holding various leadership positions in organizations of national importance and supporting entrepreneurship. She has been a council member of the Prime Minister’s Council for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Government of India, and the National Manufacturing Competitive Council, Government of India. She has presented many papers on entrepreneurship development both nationally and at international forums in OECD Paris, CIPE USA, CDG Johannesburg, China, Spain, Germany, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai, Australia, Cairo, Netherlands, USA, Canada, Mexico, etc., and has been a resource person for programs of APO - Asian Productivity Organization, Tokyo, and many such international fora.
She has been a member of evaluation missions of UNDP and has organized many programs and seminars for MSMEs and women entrepreneurship development in various capacities in many associations. Some of the key concepts she introduced include the virtual trade mission, business directory of women entrepreneurs, e-commerce as tools for enterprise growth, Asia Pacific Convention for Entrepreneurial Women, organized tech-based seminars on Cloud Computing for MSMEs, innovative e-marketing tools, exploring social media networks, etc.
