Nirupa Shankar is a Joint Managing Director at Brigade Group, one of India’s leading real estate developers. She has spent the past 14 years of her career overseeing the company’s hotel, office, and retail portfolios.
Ms. Shankar has the serial entrepreneurial bug and has successfully conceptualized multiple award-winning F&B outlets such as High Ultra Lounge, Glass Kitchen & Bar, and the Art Café in Bangalore. She set up Asia’s first real estate accelerator, called the Brigade Real Estate Accelerator Program (REAP), an initiative to mentor high-tech startups in real estate in 2016. She also launched Brigade’s flexible workspaces brand called BuzzWorks in 2019.
Prior to joining Brigade, Ms. Shankar worked as a Senior Business Analyst with Ernst & Young LLP. in the New York and North Carolina offices. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Virginia and a Master of Management in Hospitality from Cornell University. She graduated on the Dean's List and as Vice President of her graduating class.
Ms. Shankar is passionate about writing. Her articles are regularly published in news and trade journals. She is a regular speaker at various top-tier forums, conferences, and think tanks. She is also a two-time TEDx speaker. She also has won multiple awards and has been recognized as a CNBC “Young Turk” and The Economic Times (ET) “40 under 40.”
Ms. Shankar is a fitness enthusiast and regularly participates in triathlons, recently completing the full Ironman Copenhagen '23. She reads autobiographies and plays poker to unwind. She is the mother of two daughters.
